With 6,271 housing starts in Q1, Calgary is outperforming all other Canadian cities benchmarked by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Housing starts rose 16 per cent in Calgary, while dropping nationally by 12.5 per cent in the first quarter of 2025.
In a release earlier this month, the City shared the number of new, move-in-ready homes in Calgary more than doubled the previous year’s first quarter, with 7,965 homes deemed ready for occupancy since January 1, leading to more diverse housing choice for approximately 21,000 Calgarians.
